Embracing the darkness

I’ve never been a DC fan. I had my baptism of fire with Bill Sienkiewicz’s New Mutants and grew up with Rob Liefeld’s and Greg Capullo’s X-Force. And I’m not ashamed to say that during the ’90s I gave a try to every Image Comics collection.

But this all changed when a few months ago I put my hands on the Suicide Squad box (from Knight Models). Then I got in to the Batman Miniatures Game (BMG), taking with me some of my buddies from the club Atalaya Vigía (Watchtower).

We were looking for a game to represent the fights between our favorite superheroes… without much success. And although we knew the existence of BMG, we had never paid it much attention … but when I tried it I saw the light. Or the darkness. Because that’s where BMG excels: representing the nocturnal and oppressive atmosphere of Gotham City. The dark alleys, the neon lights, the bat-signal reflected on a sky covered with black clouds…

And here I am. Embracing the night. Watching the dark alleys from the heights. And this is what this blog is about: the Batman Miniatures Game and the games we play at the club Atalaya Vigía.

Abrazando la oscuridad

Nunca he sido muy fan de DC.  Tuve mi bautismo de fuego con los Nuevos Mutantes de Bill Sienkiewicz y crecí con los X-Force de Rob Liefeld y Greg Capullo. Y no me avergüenza decir que durante los extremos años 90 probé cualquier colección que tuviera el sello de Image.

Pero todo cambió cuando hace unos meses cayó en mi poder la caja de Suicide Squad de Knight Models y empecé a sumergirme en el juego Batman Miniatures Game (BMG), arrastrando conmigo a varios compañeros de aventuras del club Atalaya Vigía.

La verdad es que en el club llevábamos un tiempo buscando un juego de miniaturas con el que poder representar batallas entre nuestros superhéroes favoritos (casi siempre Marvel, para qué engañarnos) sin demasiado éxito. Y aunque conocíamos la existencia de BMG, nunca le habíamos prestado demasiada atención… pero fue probarlo y ver la luz. O más bien la oscuridad. Porque donde BMG destaca es precisamente en representar magníficamente el ambiente nocturno y opresivo de Gotham City. Los callejones oscuros, las luces de neón, la bat-señal reflejada sobre un cielo cubierto de nubes negras…

Y aquí me tenéis ahora. Abrazando la noche. Vigilando desde las alturas los oscuros callejones en los que tienen lugar nuestras partidas de BMG. Porque este blog va precisamente de eso: del juego Batman Miniatures Game y de las partidas que jugamos en el club Atalaya Vigía.
